Fitness freaks who swear by the accuracy of tracking bands as weight loss aids might have to do are think. A new research has found that these popular bands may miscalculate exercise levels by up to 40 percent. Experts from the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia determined the accuracy of several popular wrist-worn fitness monitors.
The measurement of the wrist-worn devices were compared to electrocardio-graphy readings every 15 seconds and against a portable gas analysis system which measured the number of calories burnt. As per manufacturer instructions, each of the wrist-worn devices was individualized to reflect the users age, gender, height and weight.
